MILAN DESIGN WEEK: HIGHLIGHTS
Category: Photography
2024.
Once again, I found myself drawn to the bustling streets of Milan for yet another exhilarating edition of Milan Design Week. Amidst the myriad of captivating displays and thought-provoking exhibits, a few gems stood out among the rest. Here are my top three picks that left an indelible mark on my experience at MDW.
- Hybe Design Team: Combining Japanese artisan techniques with modern design, Hybe Design Team offers a unique approach to everyday items, transforming them into cozy essentials. Their glass cups and bowls, which elegantly double as beautiful lights with the help of magnets, left me awestruck.
- Anna Carnick, representing Nifemi Marcus-Bello, captivated audiences with the striking installation “Omi Iyo.” This powerful work sheds light on the arduous journeys of migrants from Africa to Europe. Anna’s choice to showcase Marcus-Bello’s poignant message resonated deeply with me, connecting to my own roots and leaving me profoundly moved.
- Draga & Aurel once again demonstrate their mastery in merging art and design, creating a seamless symbiosis of glass, objects, and lights. Transporting viewers to the ambiance of the 70s and the Space Age era, their work offers a tantalizing glimpse into the future, a future worth eagerly anticipating.
